Duke Van Patten is the grandson of actor and comedian Dick Van Patten. Growing up in The Valley and then Malibu, he was a competitive junior surfer, sponsored by Oakley and regularly competing against surfers who went on to become the best in the world. He took a step back from surfing and enrolled in Southern Methodist University, in Texas, finishing with a degree in History. Following SMU, Duke went to England, studying acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (Laurence Olivier, Daniel Day Lewis, Olivia Coleman) earning his M.F.A. Duke then went to New York and got a rare opportunity to teach kids acting classes at the prestigious Atlantic Theatre school. Van Patten came back to LA in 2018 and has been working as an actor and writer in tv and film.
